When we review recent Office 365 updates and improvements—something we do every couple of weeks as we pull together this news roundup—it’s usually easy to spot a general theme that ties those announcements together. Whether the theme is productivity, collaboration, teamwork or some other aspect of how Office 365 enhances the way people work, it’s rarely hard to find. Looking across the large number of diverse announcements during the past couple of weeks, however, we were stumped! So this week, we’ll keep our introduction brief and get right to the good stuff.

Let’s start with security and privacy. We gave you a closer look at our current and upcoming controls for compliance, security and organizational search that come with our next-generation information protection tools. We also started enabling organizations to assign workload-specific service admin roles to their IT administrators for Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and Skype for Business (now Microsoft Teams) Online—to give organizations more control over how their Office 365 administrators access their data. In addition, we announced seven new Exchange Online Protection enhancements and added new access and security controls for Outlook for iOS and Android.

We also improved Office 365 and related products in other ways over the past two weeks or so. We introduced a set of new user experiences in Office 365 on the web and updated the user interface to make these new features available across Office 365 web applications through a set of persistent icons on the top right side of the navigation bar. We also announced new auto-expanding, highly scalable archiving for Office 365, so that no one will ever run out of archive storage.

Office Mix made headlines when we added the power of video to this groundbreaking technology that is quickly becoming as important to business as it is to education. Skype also made big news recently when we made the Skype for Web beta available worldwide, redesigned Skype to work better with Outlook.com, and announced that the Skype Translator preview technology will be coming to the Skype for Windows desktop app by the end of the summer.

All in all, it was a busy and impressive couple of weeks for Office 365. Stay tuned to see what’s coming up next.
