Working At Agile IT

Defense-focused compliancework, done by a team that argues the facts and honors the relationships.

A Note From Shannon

I love my job, and I love this team. Careers pages do not usually open that way, which is exactly why I wanted this one to.

New prospect calls are still my favorite part of the week. I get to sit with someone and geek out about what they are building: fighter jet components, naval propulsion, satellite payloads. The world I imagined as a little girl, run by the people on the other end of the call.

None of them can build it for the government without proving they can protect the data that comes with it. That is our end of the work. We bring organizations into compliance, and we hold them there.

That is the part worth staying for. Compliance is what keeps these organizations eligible to do the work at all. You build the environment that meets the standard, then you keep it defensible every day they operate in it.

The Work

Our customers build fighter jet components, naval propulsion systems, satellite payloads, power grids in space, and the aerospace platforms that fly for the Department of War. Federal law requires them to prove they can protect the design data behind all of it.

The people we talk to are engineers and IT directors who inherited that requirement. They are being asked to certify something they did not design, on a deadline someone else set, with a budget that assumed it would be simple.

We were one of six original AOS-G resellers for GCC High and we are a Cyber AB Registered Practitioner Organization. We move defense suppliers into environments that hold up under assessment, then we keep them there, because the years between assessments are where compliance quietly falls apart.

Our customers hold PhDs, they are engineers, and they are skeptical, which is exactly what they should be. We do them the honor of not mincing words. They do not have the time and they would see through it anyway.

Who Does Well Here

We hire humble, hungry, and smart. Humble means you want the team to win more than you want the credit. Hungry means nobody has to check whether you did the thing. Smart, in this context, has nothing to do with your degree. It means you read the room as well as you read the ticket.

Humble

Hungry

Smart

Past that bar, here is what this team is like.

Genuine

You are the same person on the customer call and in the hallway afterward.

Funny

Compliance work is long and detailed. People who can find the humor in it last longer and are better to sit next to.

They write well.

Our work product is documentation that assessors, primes, and government readers rely on, so a sentence that means what it says on the first read is most of the job.

Small details are the job.

The overlooked detail is usually the exact thing that fails an assessment or breaks a migration.

Nobody waffles when it gets hard.

A project going sideways is the moment you find out who somebody is.

We disagree here, out loud and often.

The rule is that we argue the facts and honor the relationships.

We Are Not A Family

Companies that call themselves families have not thought it through. You cannot fire a family member. Tempting as that sounds.

We are a group of adults who chose this. Nobody here is present out of obligation. We wake up and spend our best hours on hard problems, next to each other, on purpose.

The Honest Part

The work is regulated and there is little room for sloppy. You will own things end to end, because there is no department down the hall to hand the awkward part to. We run on EOS, which means your commitments are written down and scored done or not done, and everyone can see yours. That is uncomfortable for about a quarter and then it is the reason you trust your teammates.

What You Get

RF

Remote First

Most of us work remote.

FC

Funded Certifications

We fund CCP and CCA training across the team along with the time to study for it, and those credentials stay yours if you leave.

VC

Variable Comp

Every function here has variable compensation tied to numbers that person can move, and the plan is written down so you know the math.

RP

Recognition With Points

Anyone can recognize anyone, with points attached, visible to the company.

RTO

Real Time Off

Then take your time off and be unreachable while you are gone. Nobody here earns points for answering email at 10pm.

Our Values

Our values are RISE.

R

Reliability.

Our deadlines are our word.

I

Integrity

Do the right thing when nobody is watching, which includes saying no when someone asks us to cut a corner on security.

S

Stewardship

Leave every client environment cleaner than you found it, and never let knowledge die in one person’s head.

E

Excellence.

Ask whether this is your best work before you send it.
