Agile IT Culture Guide

At Agile IT, our culture is everything! We sincerely appreciate you dropping by to see if we are right for you.

We aspire to make the world a better place, by securing our nation’s data from potential threats or attacks. To do that, we’ve developed a company culture focused on security, constant improvement, and creating an environment where talented people can flourish — raising ourselves, each other, and our clients to new heights.

Instead of having core values that are aspirational or so broad that they can be completely open to interpretation, we focus on 22 behaviors that we all strive to exhibit daily.

Behavior #1 - Prioritize Security First

Ensure security is the foundation of customer trust. Have the courage to say "no" when asked to cut corners or prioritize convenience over security.

Behavior #2 - Act With Integrity

Commit unwaveringly to doing the right thing in every action and decision, even when no one is looking. Always tell the truth and, if you make a mistake, own up to it, apologize, and make it right.

Behavior #3 - Improve Continuously

Strive to make a positive difference in relationships, services, or processes. Be a source for good and work towards making the world a better place.

Behavior #4 - Collaborate Inclusively

Share information and work together with colleagues and partners. Generate better ideas through collaboration rather than working alone.

Behavior #5 - Practice What You Preach

We follow our own advice and teachings, demonstrating consistency between our words and actions. We emphasize integrity and authenticity and adhere to the standards we set for others.

Behavior #6 - Communicate Transparently

Facilitate mutual learning by working openly. Have courageous conversations in public channels to promote learning and avoid depriving others of valuable insights.

Behavior #7 - Seek Constant Improvement

Regularly evaluate work processes to find ways to improve. Guard against complacency and strive to get things done better, faster, and more efficiently.

Behavior #8 - Provide Honest Feedback

Support success by not accepting mediocrity in yourself or teammates. Offer rigorous support through honest and direct feedback.

Behavior #9 - Act Decisively

Move quickly to deliver the best possible experience for customers. Avoid analysis paralysis by gathering relevant facts, evaluating options thoroughly, and acting decisively.

Behavior #10 - Apply an Engineering Mindset

Systematically approach problems, break them down into manageable parts, iterate solutions, optimize resources, learn from failures, and continuously improving processes. Use your expertise and knowledge to lead clients in the right direction. Understand their business needs, technology requirements, and budgets to move them along their "Technology Roadmap".

Behavior #11 - Hold Yourself Accountable

Focus on achieving results. Set high goals, use measurements to track progress, and take responsibility to ensure tasks are completed.

Behavior #12 - Honor Commitments

Do what you say you’re going to do, when you say you’re going to do it. If a commitment can’t be fulfilled, notify others early and agree on a new deliverable.

Behavior #13 - Be A Reader and A Writer

We hold the philosophy that writing is thinking, and through the writing process, we not only learn a lot about the business and ideas to continue its growth, but we also learn a lot about ourselves and how we think about, and approach, important business problems.

Behavior #14 - Check Your Ego at the Door

It’s not about you. Focus on what’s best for the team rather than personal credit. Base every decision solely on advancing team goals and doing what’s best for the customer.

Behavior #15 - Enhance Customer Experience

Demonstrate a passion for excellence and take pride in the quality of your work. Always ask yourself, “Is this my best work?”

Behavior #16 - Set Clear Expectations

Create clarity and avoid misunderstandings by discussing expectations upfront. Ensure all meetings with conclude with clear action items, responsibilities, and due dates.

Behavior #17 - Exhibit Professionalism

Maintain professionalism at all times. Avoid manipulation, condescension, foul language, or temper tantrums. Take pride in your work and function at the highest level in everything you do.

Behavior #18 - Pursue Learning Passionately

Seek out and take advantage of every opportunity to gain more knowledge, to increase your skills, and to become a greater expert. Be resourceful about learning and sharing best practices.

Behavior #19 - Eagerness To Help

Find ways to make working with you/us easier. When in doubt, do more for others rather than pushing the work back to them. Provide simple and complete instructions and be ridiculously helpful.

Behavior #20 - Organize Obsessively

Regardless of the quality of your work, if you can't manage multiple issues, tasks, and priorities, you won't be a superstar. Use an effective task management system for prioritizing and tracking outstanding issues and responsibilities.

Behavior #21 - Contribute To Profit

Work towards delivering value for customers while making money. Look for ways to increase sales, develop new customers, and control expenses.

Behavior #22 - Prepare Thoughtfully

Consider your goals before every interaction. Prepare thoroughly to increase the chances of a productive meeting, conversation, or event.

As our business grows and evolves, our culture (and this document) will, too. What won’t change is our focus on security, and our determination to ensure that Agile IT continues to protect our nation and our customers. If this sounds exciting, you’ll probably love it here. But Agile IT is not for everyone, and we can appreciate that, so please read on.

It’s easy to talk about values and harder to live them. We work hard to keep each other accountable for upholding these standards, especially with our leadership team, because excellence and honesty go hand in hand, and we lead by example.

Courage, vulnerability, and humility are often needed to seek improvement or alternative viewpoints from others, while integrity demands directness in sharing feedback with colleague. Accepting and providing genuine, honest feedback helps us improve faster as individuals and a company. When you have talented people who work well together — trusting each other’s intentions and respecting their differences — collective success if inevitable.

Working Genius

Agile IT embraces The Six Types of Working Genius, a framework developed by Patrick Lencioni and the Table Group to identify the phases of work and where people find joys (geniuses) and frustrations. Patrick says, “The Working Genius assessment is 80% productivity and 20% personality. People who understand their genius show up to work happier, are more effective, and play well with others.

The six phases are Wonder, Invention, Discernment, Galvanizing, Enablement, and Tenacity. Also known as WIDGET!

Each person scores for two top working geniuses, not just one. When combining each of these two, a unique strength emerges. Each person also scores for 2 working competencies, and 2 working frustrations. When you join Agile IT, we will help you discover your unique strength, competencies, and frustrations.

Our intent is not to operate in terms of strengths and weaknesses. Sure, we all have them, both of them! But, when it comes to work at Agile IT, we focus on the work that gives us joy. Just because we are not passionate about a particular task does not mean it is a weakness, or that we can't or won't do it. Heck, we might even be good at it, but the point is that the task gives us no joy.

When you have a clear understanding of your working geniuses and frustrations, you can make intentional choices about how to structure your work, delegate tasks, or seek support in areas that may not align with your strengths. This self-awareness enables you to create a more balanced and fulfilling work environment, where you can leverage your working geniuses and manage or mitigate the frustrations. When we do these things, we eliminate judgment and guilt, and we enjoy what we are doing so much more.
Successful teams need all six types of genius represented; it is never just one person. A well-rounded team is ALWAYS more successful than a well-rounded person.
